A - Eco-Tourist Hospitality Manager Apprenticeship

Hospitality Manager 2011 Matt and EarenThe Hospitality Manager's focusĀ is on community harmony! So a Hospitality Manager should be a people friendly person. Duties include current, new and potential community members as well as supervising ongoing community members. The Hospitality manager is also the point person for enforcement of community guidelines and harmony between community members. Serves as the main liason for people during their time at Hedonisia. Responsible for maintenanceĀ of communal and living spaces on the property.

Please note that there is an Apprenticeship Training Fee as you will be living and training in Hawaii. Upon completion of your 1-month training you will receive a Certificate of Completion.

If your training went well you can then move up to Assistant Manager. And if that goes well then you will be offered the position of Hospitality Manager.

What is the Stipend and Benefits for being a Hedonisia Apprentice Hospitality Manager?

  1. $40 stipend a week. Yes it's true! The amount you earn is simply a living expenses stipend because this is an apprenticeship and not a job.
  2. Free Manager Accommodations at one of the following lodgings: Avocado Tent, Ulu Tent, Guava Hut, Love Bus, Ohi'a Camper or Ohana Kahuna.
  3. Tropical Garden Produce. Managers have unlimited access to the Hedonisia gardens which produce a number of edible crops depending on the season. We have avocadoes, okinawa spinach, papaya, kutuk salad, spearmint, sweet potato spinach, edible hibiscus, pineapple, and so on. (Approx. value: $50 per month)
  4. Living in Paradise! Yes that is a real benefit! The Puna region of Hawaii is beautiful, lush green, alternative, New Age, wacky, Pagan, eccentric and eco-friendly! We try to stay on earth at Hedonisia but we love living in our little island paradise!
  5. Food Stamps (EBT) &/or Unemployment Insurance. Because the Apprenticeship work requirement and stipend is within the limits of of EBT (SNAP) requirements or Unemployment Insurance. Due to the fact that it offers training and experience this position is ideal for those who qualify for EBT or Unemployment Insurance in the state of Hawaii.
  6. Gas Allowance. If you bring a vehicle with you and you use it for Hedonisia recycling runs then you receive an additional gas allowance of $20 per week plus the full amount of HI-5 bottle deposits from recycling.
  7. PERFORMANCE BONUS. If Sustainable Community Manager fulfills their duties in an exemplary manner then we may pay an additional bonus upon completion of their Apprenticeship and their Working Agreement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Hospitality Manager position is especially useful for anyone who wishes to start a community based on eco-tourism as you will be learning and practicing the following skills:

  1. Customer Service for Volunteers and Guests: Communications via email, website, phone, and on property to be handled as needed. Manager must check, edit and update Hedonisa Email and Booking Spreadsheet on a daily basis.
  2. Intake & Bookings: Hospitality Manager will screen and select Volunteers, Interns and Guests.
  3. Volunteer & Guest Telephone Interviews: Questions, inquiries and interviews from long-term Guests or Volunteers can be handled by telephone or email in conjunction with the Bookings Manager.
  4. Tours of Property: All Guests or Volunteers to Hedonisia are to be given a basic tour of the property and its facilities and to register Guests.
  5. Cash Payments. Hospitality Manager will receive small cash payments from Guests and Volunteers on the premises and place in designated Safe Box for deposit in Bank.
  6. Communication: Respectful, positive and friendly communication skills are required for Guests and Volunteers. Especially in Troubleshooting or Emergency situations.
  7. Ecofriendly. Must be enthusiastic about Mother Nature as you learn to manage an environmentally conscious community!
  8. Assistant Manager. Hospitality Manager in conjunction with Owner will train new Apprentice Managers to assist them with their duties.
  9. Lodgings and Facilities. Coordinating Volunteer Cleaning shifts with Landscape Manager to ensure that lodgings spaces and common facilities are clean and tidy.
  10. Repairs and Maintenance. Working with Landscape Manager to ensure that all facilities are in good repair and to direct volunteer resources to any repairs necessary or to call in appropriate repair or building specialist.
