Eco-Hostel Projects: In Order of Priority-

  1. Priority 1 - Hostel Facilities: Clean and maintained facilities are desireable for Volunteers and Guests alike. This is highest priority. Bathroom, Shower Kitchen and Barn should always be clean and maintained. A Volunteer can be diverted from any lower priority project to clean, repair or maintain one of the lodgings or facilities. The cleaning sheet is a detailed online guide. A print copy is located on the Refrigerator.
  2. Priority 2 - Hedonisia Lodgings. Volunteers and Guests should always be able to sleep comfortably. Sleepless people can get cranky which we don't want at Hedonisia! So be sure to keep accommodations weeded, dry and looking nice. If there are no other priority jobs, Volunteers can be given up to 3 hours per week to improve and beautify their living space.
  3. Priority 3 - Tropical Education Farm, Landscaping and Crater. Third Priority. Because plants and weeds grow at their own pace we can take a Hedonisia approach to our gardening and landscaping! As long as the first two priorities are taken care of then we can work on the third. In other words, when there are fewer volunteers Hedonisia Managers should concentrate on maintenance of hostel facilities and lodgings. Land projects come third. In other words a cleaning a dirty shower is a higher priority than weeding a garden!

Priority 1: Hedonisia Facilities Projects

i - The BARN Upper level Description: Community Area - Kitchen/Dinning area, Computer area, Library/Lounging area, Future Yoga area, Barn Tent 1 & Tent 2
Maintenance Tasks 1-Time Projects or Repairs
  1. General Exterior Maintenance - Walk around Barn and pick up any wrappers, bottle caps etc.
  2. Follow Detailed Interior Cleaning Instructions on Fridge
  3. Reorganize under sink
  4. Locate all cleaning materials under kitchen sink
  5. Organize Bed Sheets in Cabinet
  • new paint job under sink area
  • Create a bar area where old sink is presently
  • Move kitchen to opposite side & build a screened-in porch around it
  • Paint entire interior of barn with 7 gallons of white paint on top of fridge outside by dryer
  • Create Yoga space where King Size bed was

ii - TOILET-with-a-View & BATH HOUSE: Upper level near Barn Description: Shower area, Toilet area, Washing Machine area

  1. Clear and organize laundry area.
  2. Thin out all decorative plants and replant these on back property line
  • Add decorative art on exterior shower wall green
  • If ever possible receive donated or recycled Hot Tub which will then be located in this zone.

iii - CLOTHES DRYING AREA Upper level exterior of Barn near crater Description: Rental Coin-operated Dryer, Clothes Line, Refrigerator with used Paint cans, Bicycles

iv - RECYCLING ZONE Upper level next to Barn Description:Recycle Containers & Trash Cans

  1. Plant low decorative plants all around that smell nice!
  • Install solar light in interior

v - TOOL SHED Upper level exterior of Barn Description:All Building & Garden Equipment & Tools

  1. Reorganize once a month
  2. Keep locked
  3. Organize screws and nails into separate containers so all are visible
  • Re-roof both sheds with proper purloins

vi - Sunnyside Tool Shed Lower Level Description: Storage area for building materials and other large recycled items which we may wish to use on future projects.
Maintenance Tasks 1-Time Projects or Repairs
  1. Reorganize outer shelves and only stack water resistant items there.
  2. Weed inner sheltered and outer area for greater storage capability.
  • Will place extension and shelter on the side to increase storage.
  • Build beautifying Berm of decorative plants to hide items being stored.
  • Reorganize Loader Cab for small wood and other items storage.

vii - Property Grounds
Maintenance Tasks 1-Time Projects or Repairs
  1. Walk around property and pick up trash and any other foreign objects
  2. Prune cane grass and mexican sunflowers along side of driveway
  3. Mow if & where needed. Save grass clippings & put on top of mulch pile in strawberry garden
  4. Add more dirt and/or compost to existing pile on lower level near rock circle that has no tree in it
  

Priority 2 - Hedonisia Lodgings Projects
1 - AVOCADO TENT Lower level Description:One Queen size bed for two, room for extra bed. 1 set of sheets, two blankets, 2 pillows with cases, cooler, trash can with bag

  3. Weed and Prune decorative garden areas beside hut
  4. Beautify interior and exterior space
  •  Add metal roof or living roof
  • Sew tents and cane grass for outer walls


2- GUAVA HUT Lower level Description:Single bed for one, sheet, blanket, pillow with case, cooler, trash can with bag

  2. Keep Interior Cleaned & Stocked
  3. Beautify interior and exterior space
  •   Remove Guava Hut eventually
  •  Clear cane grass behind hut and plant decorative plants and trees along back border

3 - JUNGLE BREEZE Lower level Description:Full size bed for two, sheets, blanket, two pillows with cases, cooler, trash can with bag

  •  Fix leak on roof
  • Clear cane grass behind & beside truck and plant decoratives in and around truck
  • Add metal roof or living roof

4 - KAHUNA Upper level Description:Manager’s Cabin - King size bed, sheets, two pillows with cases, cooler, trash can with bag

  1. General Exterior Maintenance
  2. Keep Interior Cleaned & Stocked
  3. Beautify interior and exterior space
  • Continue to Prime & Paint Unfinished surfaces on Manager's Cabin
  • Machete cane grass down to open view from Barn to Ocean (near manager's cabin)

5 - LOVE BUS Lower level Description:Full size bed for two, Queen size bed for two, two sets of sheets, two blankets, four pillows with cases, cooler, trash can with bag

  1. General Exterior Maintenance
  2. Keep Interior Cleaned & Stocked
  3. Bus Maintenance
  4. Beautify interior and exterior space
  • Add decoratives around tree next to Bus and driveway
  • Weed and add decoratives to right side of drive
  • Clear and flatten Land and angle Bus differently.
  • Clear cane grass in front of bus and cut roots of vines growing up large trees
  • Strip the cut cane grass and lay out to dry (ask where)

6 - OCEAN VIEW Upper level Description:Queen size bed for two, sheets, blanket, two pillows with cases, cooler, trash can with bag. Guest or partial Guest/Volunteer only.
Maintenance Tasks 1-Time Projects or Repairs
  1. General Exterior Maintenance
  2. Keep Interior Cleaned & with bed made after each Guest checkout.
  3. Continual repair and improving path to hut
  4. Bring extra rocks and soil to hut and dump them next to the Ohia tree
  5. Beautify interior and exterior space
  6. Continue to maintain and repair path to Ocean View. Replace wood with rocks on path steps as each wooden step deteriorates.
  •  Move egg plants to food Garden “C” and replace with low-lying decorative plants
  • Build new compost circles on ocean side of PATH TO OCEAN VIEW with rocks, add compost, Plant low-growing trees
  • New hard roof
  •  Eventually green "living roof"

7 - SUNNY SIDE Lower level Description:Single bed for one, sheets, blanket, pillow with case, cooler, trash can with bag

  • Fix door on bed space
  • Add metal roof or living roof
  • Add decoratives on bamboo wall side
  • Put a queen size bed in hut

8 - BAMBOO HUT Upper level Description:Double bed for two, sheets, blanket, pillows with cases, cooler, trash can with bag

  3. Remove weeds & cane grass from exterior
  4. Replace weeds with decorative plants

9 - BARN TENTS Description:Two tents each with a single bed, sheets, blankets, pillows with cases

Priority 3 - Tropical Farm Projects, Landscaping, Crater

GARDEN “A” Mid level far left side of Recycling Zone PLANTS: Herbs such as Basil, Mint, Rosemary

  • Relocate entire garden to another location as new sink will drain into this area
  • Eventually plant banana trees
