Volunteer Task List for Land Projects on Property

Eco-Hostel Projects: In Order of Priority-

  1. Priority 1 - Hostel Facilities: Clean and maintained facilities are desireable for Volunteers and Guests alike. This is highest priority. Bathroom, Shower Kitchen and Barn should always be clean and maintained. A Volunteer can be diverted from any lower priority project to clean, repair or maintain one of the lodgings or facilities. The cleaning sheet is a detailed online guide. A print copy is located on the Refrigerator.
  2. Priority 2 - Hedonisia Lodgings. Volunteers and Guests should always be able to sleep comfortably. Sleepless people can get cranky which we don't want at Hedonisia! So be sure to keep accommodations weeded, dry and looking nice. If there are no other priority jobs, Volunteers can be given up to 3 hours per week to improve and beautify their living space.
  3. Priority 3 - Tropical Education Farm, Landscaping and Volcanic Crater. Because plants and weeds grow at their own pace we can take a Hedonisia approach to our gardening and landscaping! As long as the first two priorities are taken care of then we can work on the third. In other words, when there are fewer volunteers Hedonisia Managers should concentrate on maintenance of hostel facilities and lodgings. Land projects come third. In other words a cleaning a dirty shower is a higher priority than weeding a garden!

Priority 3 - Tropical Farm Projects, Landscaping, Crater

GARDEN “A” Mid level far left side of Recycling Zone including the crater berm PLANTS: Herbs such as,, Althea's Orange Tree, Sweet potatoes, Hawaiian Bird Pepper, Construction Bamboo, Taro

  2. Check on drainage hole & re-dig if necessary
  3. Special maintenence- Weeding and care for Althea's Orange Tree

GARDEN "B": BANANA ZONE Next to Bamboo Hut PLANTS: Mostly Banana Trees,

  1. Keep front area (HAND WEEDED)
  2. HAND WEED and prune decorative area in rear, near Hut & lower side near buddha statue.
  3. Hand weed cane grass and other invasive with sickle
  4. Label all plants
  5. Repair and expand existing rock circles as tree grows (G)
  6. Remove weeds and mulch leaving a 3” mulch-free circle around trunk of tree
  • Create new small sign for garden B (Lower)
  • Take cuttings from mulberry tree, particularly those in roadway
  •  Remove weeds and mulch leaving a 3” mulch-free circle around trunk of tree

GARDEN “C”Behind and to the right of Shower Description: Decorative zone with non-edible plants, Coleus, Mexican Sunflower , Rainbow Eucalyptus, Bamboo

  2. Plant good smelling flowers
  3. Keep bushy and wild- nonaccesible for privacy
  4. Thin out weeds leaving those that are decorative and smell nice
  5. Weed Fishpond & Check
  • Remove young banana trees to crater and other edibles to Salad Zone
  • Compost Bamboo
  • Put red cinder in clothesline area
  • Clear cane grass + sunflowers and then plant decoratives

 

GARDEN "D" Right of bath house past mexican sunflowers PLANTS: Sugar Cane, Edible Hibiscus, Pineapple,Papaya, Sweet Potatoes, Starfruit

GARDEN "F" Upper Cliff Area; wraps around Ocean View, next to OhanaKahuna Description: edibles, Tulsi, Mexican Oregano, Sage, Papaya, Sweet potato,

  7. Put red colius on upper cliff edge
  •  Landscape rocks to make terraces
  • Plant Okinawa on all bare areas
  • Paint a sign for garden
  • Weed around night blooming Jasmine by last papaya

GARDEN "G" Lower cliff area; starts in upper level, PLANTS:, Citrus Tree Coconut tree, Jaboticaba, Tomatoes Okra

GARDEN "H" SALAD ZONE Along lower cliff next to Love Bus, between gardens G and K. PLANTS: Katuk, Okinawa Spinach, Edible Hibiscus, coconut, other edible plants.

GARDEN "R" Volcanic Crater PLANTS:Decoratives & Fruit Trees

  3. Remove all Albizias
  4. Label all plants
  5. Plant Bananas or Papayas and other fruit treesin every hole

  7. Use rocks to fill in holes on main paths
  • Along trail build new compost circles with rocks and add compost

  • Identify and locate a safe Yoga zone to rear of crater

  3. Prune sunflowers so driveway is clear

  • Remove most plants to expose the LOGO plant. (Relocate decoratives to Oceanview Clothing Optional Zone-- Plumerias need sun & drainage)(move to toilet area on hill)
  • Remove baby bananas
  • Plant low lying decoratives in front of LOGO plant from in front of managers house
