Eco-Hostel Projects: In Order of Priority

  1. Priority 1 - Hostel Facilities: Clean and maintained facilities are desireable for Volunteers and Guests alike. This is highest priority. Bathroom, Shower Kitchen and Barn should always be clean and maintained. A Volunteer can be diverted from any lower priority project to clean, repair or maintain one of the lodgings or facilities. The cleaning sheet is a detailed online guide. A print copy is located on the Refrigerator.
  2. Priority 2 - Hedonisia Lodgings. Volunteers and Guests should always be able to sleep comfortably. Sleepless people can get cranky which we don't want at Hedonisia! So be sure to keep accommodations weeded, dry and looking nice. If there are no other priority jobs, Volunteers can be given up to 3 hours per week to improve and beautify their living space.
  3. Priority 3 - Tropical Education Farm, Landscaping and Volcanic Crater. Because plants and weeds grow at their own pace we can take a Hedonisia approach to our gardening and landscaping! As long as the first two priorities are taken care of then we can work on the third. In other words, when there are fewer volunteers Hedonisia Managers should concentrate on maintenance of hostel facilities and lodgings. Land projects come third. In other words a cleaning a dirty shower is a higher priority than weeding a garden!

Priority 1: Hedonisia Facilities Projects

i - The BARN Upper level Description: Community Area - Kitchen/Dinning area, Computer area, Library/Lounging area, Future Yoga area, Barn Tent 1, Tent 2 & Tent 3

  2. Locate all cleaning materials in Hedonisia Supply Zone
  3. Organize Bed Sheets in Cabinet
  4. Organize the Hedo Library
  5. Organize and air bedding, check for mold, bugs, ect.
  • Repaint entire interior of barn / Prime Ceiling - Rainy Day
  • Create Yoga space in Barn
  • Create new ecoshop near supply zone
  • Create cleaning bottle system with recipes on bottles and organize supplies area
  • Create new first aid zone

ii - The Kitchen Upper level Description: Community Area - Kitchen/Dinning area
Maintenance Tasks One-Time Projects or Repairs
  • Cabinets and wiring (Lee)
  • Touch-ups on kitchen roof. Paint located in tool shed (tan in color).
  • Sanding of Ohia logs. (Refer to Lee for this project)
  • Create a bar area where the sink is currently located (Lee)
  • Move kitchen to opposite side and build a screened in porch around it

iii - TOILET-with-a-View & BATH HOUSE: Upper level near Barn Description: Shower area, Toilet area, Washing Machine area

  1. Clear and organize laundry area.
  2. Thin out all decorative plants and replant these on back property line
  • If ever possible receive donated or recycled Hot Tub which will then be located in this zone.

iv - CLOTHES DRYING AREA Upper level exterior of Barn near crater Description: Rental Coin-operated Dryer, Clothes Line, Refrigerator with used Paint cans, Bicycles

  2. Make sure lint screen is cleaned for energy efficiency and fire safety
  • More shelf storage
  • Re-lay roof to fix leaks
  • Seal off clothes drying area

v - RECYCLING ZONE Upper level next to Barn Description:Recycle Containers & Trash Cans

  • make compartments for "treasures" like containers for food storage (market)

  1. Reorganize once a month (Rainy day job)
  2. Keep locked
  3. Organize screws and nails into separate containers so all are visible
  • Re-roof both sheds with proper perlins to fix leaks
  • Orgainze jars and plastic containers & put in screw zone

vii - Sunnyside Storage Shed Lower Level Description: Storage area for building materials and other large recycled items which we may wish to use on future projects.

  1. Reorganize outer shelves and only stack water resistant items there.
  2. Weed inner sheltered and outer area for greater storage capability.
  3. Reorganize Loader Cab for small wood and other items storage.
  4. Reorganize once a month (rainey day job)
  • Will place extension and shelter on the side to increase storage.
  • Build beautifying Berm of decorative plants to hide items being stored (on border zone)
  • paint panel on back decoratively-plywood sheet
  • reframe molokia with all guava, front and back (See Lee)
  • Place round stones attractivelly on ground under roofed side, landscape seating area
  • Use labels for organizing

viii - Property Grounds

  1. Walk around property and pick up trash and any other foreign objects
  2. Prune cane grass and mexican sunflowers along the Lloyd side of driveway
  3. Mowing-lightly raking grass for composting and picking up small items of trash; upper level one shift, lower level one shift

  • Addt' parking needs more rocks

  • Fill in neiboring area under trees with compost and level up with rocks; plant grassed meditation area

4 - OHANA KAHUNA (Manager's House) Upper level Description:Manager’s Cabin - King size bed, sheets, two pillows with cases, cooler, trash can with bag

  2. Keep pathway around Ohana Kahuna weeded
  3. Maintain P-zone
  4. Organize wood underneath neatly and properly
  • Machete cane grass down to open view from Barn to Ocean (near manager's cabin)
  • Terrace slope for safety, visability, and privacy where needed
  • Mural on side of porch
  • Add pee friendly plants to the ocean side of the porch. (Papaya, Coco's, and Bamboo)
  • Plant 2nd fruit tree beyond 1st in front of Ohana Kahuna
  • Re-landscape path that leads to the lower zone
  • Plant more citronella around yoga porch
  • Shore up cliffside with extra dirt, cinder, rocks and weeds
  • Clean, bundle, and price snorkel equipment (Rainey)

  1. Bus Mechanic Maintenance
  2. Beautify interior and exterior space
  3. Start bus every 2 months
  • Add decoratives around Bus and driveway
  • Clear cane grass in front of bus and cut roots of vines growing up large trees
  • Remove 1 bus seat
  • Paint more erotic interior murals
  • Move bus 3 feet way from avo tree, remove earth and rock to allow bus to move over; use this soil for gardens

6 - OCEAN VIEW Upper level Description:Queen size bed for two, sheets, blanket, two pillows with cases, cooler, trash can with bag. Guest or partial Guest/Volunteer only.

  1. Keep Interior Cleaned & with bed made after each Guest checkout.
  2. Bring extra rocks and soil to hut and dump them next to the Ohia tree
  3. Beautify interior and exterior space(rainey day)
  4. Continue to maintain and repair path to Ocean View. Replace wood with rocks on path steps as each wooden step deteriorates.
  • Build new compost circles on ocean side of PATH TO OCEAN VIEW with rocks, add compost, Plant low-growing trees
  • Decorative painting of the porch
  • Landscaping clothing optional zone (Add pee friendly plants to this area)
  • Make sign for clothing optional zone

7 - SUNNY SIDE Lower level Description:Single bed for one, sheets, blanket, pillow with case, cooler, trash can with bag

  1. Keep decoratives on loader presentable
  2. Remove weeds from exterior wall facing Garden “G”
  3. Beautify interior and exterior space (rainey day)
  4. Refill solar battery with water every 2 months
  5. Pick up trash around area
  • Add decoratives on bamboo wall side
  • clean roof under side, wirebrush and sandpaper rust spots, spray rust spots, touch up w/paint and then prime w/metal primer and paint w/interior bright color (rainey day)

8 - BAMBOO HUT Upper level Description:Double bed for two, sheets, blanket, pillows with cases, cooler, trash can with bag

  • Screen in front porch with bamboo & shade cloth (Lee)
  • Create new bedroom in screen porch
  • Re-seal kitchen floor
  • Fix plaster and paint in window of bedroom
