Sustainable Rainforest Community
Hedonisia Hawaii is a sustainable community based on eco-tourism and social enterprise. We are located in the lush volcanic rain forests of "Big Island"Hawaii. At Hedonisia, we offer "green lodgings" for "ecotourists", backpackers and travelers who wish to experience a different Hawaii than the overdeveloped commercial hotel tourism of Waikiki or Kona.

Because of our sustainable policies we are deliberately different from "normal" tourist resorts. We reduce, reuse and recycle. As a result, we can offer very affordable jungle lodgings in the Hawai'ian Rainforest!
We are continually experimenting with ecofriendly solutions to community living and new forms of environmentally friendly tourism in Hawaii. We define ourselves as a 'community of individuals'. Travelers, Backpackers, Interns and Volunteers can come here and enjoy a community vibe but still retain their privacy and individuality.
Having only ten bed-spaces on 3.72 acres of land prevents us from becoming over-crowded. Our maximum population is 7 - 16 people which allows Guests, Interns and Volunteers quiet, privacy and space to enjoy our little piece of Hawai'ian paradise.
Our community has a Solar Heated Private Garden Shower, Geothermal electricity, Eco- Laundry, Free Landline Telephone, and DSL wireless internet access! And of course, our famous and well photographed Toilet-with-a-Garden! It's jungle style but hardly roughing it! On the property we also have a nature-trail you can explore that descends into our own volcanic crater.

Volunteer your time and your skills to enjoy a discounted eco-vacation in Hawaii. Our residential volunteer program is for those who wish to enjoy a longer stay in Hawaii at a lower cost while doing volunteer work in support of a sustainable community in the Hawai'an rainforest!

- Hedonisia Community Manager Apprenticeship: A residential hands-on opportunity for qualified applicants to be an apprentice manager for the Hedonisia Hawaii Community. This is an ideal learning experience for those who dream of one day starting their own community. Also for artists, writers, computer workers, telecommuters and so on who would like work that requires them to stay at 'home' so they can work on their own projects.
- Sustainable Community Development & Social Enterprise Workshops: Designed for those interested in gaining economic and social satisfaction from creating a viable sustainable community or business enterprise with income from positive social or environmental change. In these residential workshops you learn Ethical Accounting, Moral Business Relations and Transparent business policies as well as an insider's education in community management.

- Hedonisia Tropical Educational Farm: A portion of the cost of your stay is considered an "agricultural farm fee" which allows you to harvest any fruits and vegetables growing on our property. This is how we "sell" Hedonisia garden produce without the expense of marketing, storage and transportation. It is the most eco-friendly way to bring food from our gardens to a person's mouth!
- Romantic Studio Condo Rental in Hilo: To balance out our "jungle" location we now offer a small romantic apartment as a rental for couples who are staying in quaint tropical Hilo. Hilo is the "wettest" town in America with a growing sense of "green tourism". Now you can conveniently book a "stay in the jungle" and then stay in the city all in one go!
- Moving to Hawaii? We offer a number of lodging, work and education options for those who are thinking of leaving the rat race and moving to a Hawai'ian island Paradise!
Our location is very convenient for both eco-tourists and volunteers alike. We are close to many major attractions of Puna and East Hawaii such as Ahalanui Warm Ponds, Kehena Black Sand beach, Volcano's National Park, and many others. The quaint and colorful "hippie" village of Pahoa is only 4 miles away and so is the ocean!
