Female Travelers & Feminist Volunteers at Hedonisia Hawaii!
More and more women are traveling by themselves, with a small child or along with another female friend. In such circumstances it is often desirable to travel to a place that feels safe and female friendly.
At Hedonisia Hawaii we offer affordable eco-lodgings for female travelers. The area of Hawaii that we are located in is called Puna. It is like San Francisco in the tropics. Many communes and alternative healers. Many Yoga retreats and centers. The New Age is definitely over here!
Because our hostel community is relatively small, people get to know each other very quickly and on a much deeper level than in some of the larger hostels in the world.
The Volunteers who stay here often know where the best parties and other social events are happening. And there is usually someone to go with for a quick swim in the volcanic heated Ahalanui Warms Ponds. So a female traveler can arrive here with a friend or alone and be assured of safety, privacy, security and friendly people!
Our sustainable community is called "Hedonisia" and it is a very social place! Dating can and does happen! However, we do not tolerate sexual harassment. Yet at the same time we did not want to have a zero dating policy which can be somewhat anti-social. And so, we developed the Hedonisia Hawaii Dating & Sexual Harrassment Guidelines which allows for socialization but with protection for personal space and privacy.
We call ourselves a "community of individuals". Whilst people on the property may do things together as a community such as sharing meals or going on trips together; this is not obligatory. As long as you do your volunteer work and follow our basic community rules, you can do your own thing! In other words you don't have to be "social" if you don't want to!
In addition, we designed and located most Hedonisia accomodations to offer a fair amount of privacy, so that you are able to retreat into your own space whenvever you want.
Feminist Research Volunteers: Hedonisia Hawaii is a Sustainable Community. We strive to promote environmentally friendly policies in our few acres of Hawaiian Paradise. However, our activism does not stop there. In addition to our ecotourist services, Hedonisia Hawaii is also very active in promoting women's causes on the internet.
We have created and maintain a number of socially progressive activist websites. Interested volunteers may do part of their work exchange as Research Interns under the Hedonisia Fair-Trade Volunteer Program.

Because many of these websites specialize in issues of particular importance to women, we welcome progressive female volunteers who are proficient in any of the following:
- Writer/Researcher - (This job is ideal for a Liberal Arts Major Student!) - We need writers and/or web researchers for two book projects and three websites we are working on. Must have good interviewing and listening skills and deep interest in any of the following: travel, feminism, religion in the world, culture and the changing nature of families and relationships. Liberal Arts Students with majors in either International Politics, Sociology, Psychology, Family Studies, Religion, Humanities, Women's Studies are welcome. Previous writing and editing experience a plus.
- Web Designer or App Developer Tech Internship - Must be proficient in Wordpress web design or Apple/Android App development.
